Spatial Information Day | South Australia

Wednesday 25, Feb 2026

South Australia’s Spatial Information Day is set to return on Friday, 7 August at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The long-running event, now more than 20 years old, is an annual highlight of the South Australian geospatial community’s calendar.

Spatial Information Day (SID) brings together experts from the fields of surveying, GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry and more, for wide-ranging discussions and networking.

The theme for 2026 is ‘Every future starts somewhere: From ground truth to space, shaping what comes next,’ and this year the organisers are hoping to attract around 400 delegates and 40 speakers.

“What makes SID special is that you’ll find a first-year student and the Surveyor-General sharing a conversation in the same room,” said Graham Walker, Chair of the organising committee.

“It’s that culture of inclusivity and community that has sustained this event for over two decades, and it’s a culture we are proud to champion in 2026.”

call for abstracts and papers is now open, with speakers invited to submit their ideas within a wide span of topics, such as:

  • Various spatial disciplines, e.g. GIS, surveying and so on;
  • Real-world case studies;
  • Insights into innovation techniques and approaches;
  • Smart cities and infrastructure;
  • Emerging technologies.

“We want to hear the stories behind the data,” said Walker.

“Whether you’re a researcher with a fresh perspective or a veteran geospatial leader with a complex case study, your voice is what makes the SID program so robust.”

A sponsorship prospectus is now available, while tickets for the event are expected to go on sale soon.

And this year will also see the introduction of the inaugural South Australian EISSI Awards Dinner.

As mentioned, SID has a long history. It was first held in the year 2000 under the auspices of the Spatial Information Committee, and in 2023 was brought into the then Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA).

After the GCA went into administration in May last year, SID returned to the control of a volunteer committee guided by five previous convenors, and this year will also feature input from the Surveyor-General of South Australia.
