It's been a fabulous week here in Las Vegas at Trimble Dimensions 2024 with about 150 of us from Australia and New Zealand thanks to UPG, mixing in with 7,000 surveyors, engineers, planners, digital, construction specialists. There were hundreds of sessions across 3 full days and it was great to have about a dozen of those presented our members.
Trimble CEO Rob Painter opened the conference, emphasising the critical role of Surveyors in the global economy. Michelle shared a presentation later that day on 'Determining the Value of Surveying for Future Surveyors', outlining how we can raise the profile of surveying and our value across all countries.
The conference was packed with great presentations, including RPSs Damian Ling's captivating session on road surveys. More Australian Surveyors made some great contributions, with Gertzel Engineering Surveyors, and NorthGroup Consulting presenting on innovative surveying tools and techniques. And Bennett & Bennett presented on the work they are doing on Snowy Hydro AND recorded a podcast with The Geoholics.
 It was great to hear Industry Training Alliance RTO #46181's Peta Cox lead discussions on educational challenges in Australia, sparking conversations about licensing, certification, and the future of the Surveying profession not just in Australia but across the world (with a USA focus).A highlight each year is the "off-site" where delegates can use much of the machinery, tools and instruments which this year included remote access to major construction in another state! Some surveyors got behind the wheel (?) of some rather large diggers with a backdrop of Vegas that has to be seen!
After the in-depth educational opportunities, there was some fun to be had done as only surveyors can. Of course what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, but we appreciated gathering a few times with just our group and connecting across Oceania at Grand Lux Cafe, Prohibition 2023 and our final night appreciation party thanks to Trimble at Tao with 4 levels that included a live band and karaoke - and we found out Elvis was a Surveyor! There's some talent amongst you all ?

This conference was a great reminder of the impact of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of Surveying across the world!
