2024 National Surveying Congress
This week, the 2024 National Surveying Congress took place in Queenstown, New Zealand at the Heritage Hotel.

Day 1 saw a snowy morning and a warm welcome from Surveyors Australia President, Craig Turner, and CSNZ Chairman, Mike Stott. Keynote speaker Julian Moore captivated everyone with insights on the potential of AI in surveying, followed by a hands-on workshop on Day 2. Richard Hemi provided an education update from the University of Otago School of Surveying, followed by Carl Fox's fascinating local case study.

The afternoon sessions included legal highlights from
Vanya Lozzi of Holding Redlich, addressing Australia's housing problem. A panel with Brendan Munari, Jayne Albiston, and Colin McIntosh focused on discussing the creation of a framework for engineering surveyors.

In the evening, attendees enjoyed a steamboat ride on the TSS Earnslaw to the Colonel's Homestead for the 2024 National Consultancy Excellence Awards and Gala Dinner. This year, the winners showed excellence in their commitment to professional development, contribution to associations & involvement with community, dedication to diversity, and so much more.

Day 2 began with Carl Fox sharing disaster recovery lessons learnt from the locals after the Christchurch Earthquake, followed by Jonathan Davis and Russell Box from AllTerra New Zealand and UPG (Ultimate Positioning Group) who discussed the latest advancement in technology and their applications. The morning moved forward with Robin McDowell of Reeds Consulting, who shared Reeds’ award-winning approach to Team Leadership.

Surveyors Australia’s Michelle Blicavs, and Andrew McKellar from Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI) shared their tips for leading in business, and we heard further tips from Mike Stott on Navigating Native Lands, along with further hot topics from Craig Turner.

Day 2 wrapped up with a cadastral leaders panel, featuring Surveyor General of New Zealand
Anselm Haanen, and Surveyor General of Victoria Craig Sandy LS GAICD, who provided updated on ICSM and ANZSLIC. A redefinition panel brought discussion from Dale Atkinson, Brian Hammonds, and James Sprott from QLD, NSW, and VIC, on how redefinitions are handled and lodged on their jurisdictions
