We are happy to say that Telstra has just announced that they will push the 3G switch off date from June 30 to August 31, which gives you two extra months to upgrade your equipment to be 4 or 5G compatible.
When we first started talking to Telstra and the Government about this last year, the response was quite generalised and along the lines of “everyone has had long enough to switch over”. We are grateful they have since heard our call, (alongside that of others impacted, including the 000 emergency network), and granted this extension.
This will give people longer to upgrade, but it is also expected that the extra time will enable the telcos to better their 4 and 5G coverage, especially in the regions.
While we hope this helps to reduce some of the pressure in being prepared, we will continue our advocacy to push for financial support for this unplanned cost to your businesses.
