As many of our Members are keenly aware, 3G is being progressively shutoff across Australia.
For Surveyors, this switch-off is problematic. Since a large amount of Surveying equipment operates on the 3G network, some Surveyors have purchased equipment that will become obselete with the switch-off.
"The problem is that their equipment doesn't cost $1000 like a phone does, it can cost close to $15,000... In some cases for firms that might have 50 people, they've got a bill for hundreds of thousands of dollars... For our very large surveying firms that operate nationally. they're looking at millions of dollars in order to upgrade their equipment"
Additionally, the switch off puts more concentrated pressure on the availability and supply of upgraded Surveying equipment. The cost for Surveying businesses to ensure they have up-to-date equipment will have a significant impact - particularly on small to mid-sized firms.
Surveyors Australia has made a submission to the Senate Economics Committee Inquiry into the Treasury Laws Amendment, We called for the instant write-off theshold to be increase to $30,000 and extended either indefinietly, or until 30th June 2028 to allow for Surveying businesses to better plan their upgrades.
