Surveying In 2024 Questionnaire Results

Tuesday 27, Feb 2024

As the year settles in, we are fielding calls from Surveyors with some concerns about the year ahead. So Surveyors Australia put together a 1-minute, quick survey to take a quick "pulse" of the industry. We thankfully received 185 responses, with every State and Territory represented in the Results.

The Results

2024 Work Volume Expectations

Responses regarding work volume for 2024 show a cautiously optimistic outlook, a bit of a 'mixed bag'. 47.03% of our members anticipate business volumes to remain consistent with the previous year, while 28.65% expect an increase. However, 24.32% predict a decrease. These results flow with that of the Demand Study which shows a fluctuation in workload this year and some of you reporting the market is a bit "soft" right now in some parts of the country.

Staffing Projections

When it comes to staffing, the majority (57.92%) foresee maintaining current levels, though a significant portion (31.15%) is optimistic about expansion. This contrasts with the 10.93% anticipating reductions, which again fits with the predictions in the Demand Study - and the varying workflow in different jurisdictions.

Identified Challenges

The survey highlighted two primary challenges for the upcoming year: economic conditions (52.43%) and staffing and skills shortages (49.73%).  Regulatory changes (15.68%), technology adoption (7.57%), and other factors (mostly the Surveyors Boards!) (6.49%) also contribute to the landscape of challenges we face.

So it's not surprising that your priorities for support from Surveyors Australia was advocacy and regulatory support (41.90%), followed by educational resources and training (33.52%).  And one person suggested we send less emails!
